This unique program is proven to be impactful.
Hear what a few past participants have said about the Next Gen Leaders Program:
You can be a part of the solution.
In March 2022, the median sales price of a single-family home on Oahu hit a record $1,150,000. That was largely driven by the increased housing demand and lower supply of homes on the market (11% decrease from March 2021).
The State of Hawaii forecasts that we will need to develop about 50,000 more housing units between 2020 and 2025 to cover the demand, and a vast majority of those units must be affordable for low- and moderate-income families. Younger people, who are just starting their careers, will certainly be impacted.
For this year's Next Gen Leaders Program, we are teaming up with Housing Hawaii's Future, a nonprofit whose goal is to create opportunities for Gen Z and Millennials by ending the workforce housing shortage in Hawaii. The organization was recently featured in an article by the University of Hawaii.
This is an opportunity to make your voice heard! Participants will work in teams to research and propose solutions to aspects of the housing crisis. Examples of topics include:
At the end of the program, the teams will present their findings and ideas to a panel of community leaders. Additionally, ideas generated in the program will be shared with relevant policy makers including the governor, county mayors, appointed officials, and legislative bodies.
