Scholarship Luncheon & Celebration
Saturday, August 3, 2024 11:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m. (Doors open at 10:45 a.m.) Windward Community College, Akoakoa Rooms Help us recognize the hard work and community service of our 2024 scholarship recipients, Next Gen Leaders Program participants, and many volunteers. Proceeds and donations will fund more scholarships for young leaders who want to help others in their community! Scholarships We will be awarding our Jordan & Cara Odo Leadership Scholarship and Clara Onishi Educator Scholarship to two recent Hawaii high school graduates. Next Gen Leaders Program This summer, we are hosting our fifth annual Next Gen Leaders Program. Fifteen college and graduate students will receive leadership development training and mentorship, meet community leaders and established professionals, and work in teams to research and propose a business or policy idea that applies generative AI to solve a community issue. Uplifting Leaders In celebration of our 10th year, we will be recognizing seven volunteers and supporters who have helped our foundation grow:

Wednesday, March 1, 2023 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Hana Koa Brewing Co., 962 Kawaiahao St. Featuring three amazing leaders: Scott Seu is the president & CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries, the parent company of Hawaiian Electric Company, American Savings Bank, and Pacific Current. He serves on several nonprofit boards, including Hale Kipa, Teach for America - Hawaii, and Partners in Development Foundation. Meli James is the co-founder of Mana Up. She has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of five Women to Watch and as one of eight Women Leaders Who Are Disrupting Entrepreneurship. Meli is also the president of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association and serves on the boards for the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business and Leadership, Chaminade University, and Holomua Collective. Josh Wisch is the president & CEO of Holomua Collective. Previously, he was the executive director for the ACLU of Hawaii, special assistant to the Hawaii Attorney General, deputy director of the Hawaii Department of Taxation, and a manager for multiple political campaigns. Now, he spends his time advocating for a more affordable Hawaii. |

King St. Featuring four amazing leaders: Connie Lau is currently the President & Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiian Electric Industries. Prior to rising to become HEI’s CEO, she led American Savings Bank as the COO, then the CEO. She currently serves on numerous advisory councils and boards of directors for profit, nonprofit, and governmental organizations. Jason Chang is currently the President & Chief Operating Officer of The Queen’s Health Systems. Jason has over thirteen years of executive leadership experience in both for-profit and non-profit healthcare. He was previously the CEO of McAllen Heart Hospital and McAllen Medical Center, part of the South Texas Health System and Universal Health Services. Daniel Chun is currently the Director of Sales, Community & Public Relations - Hawaii of Alaska Airlines. Daniel leads Alaska Airlines’ sales, marketing, and community outreach efforts throughout the state of Hawaii. He has nearly two decades of experience in Hawaii’s tourism industry and has been recognized by multiple publications as a leader in the community. Dr. George Kaʻiliwai III is currently the Director, Requirements and Resources for Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM). Dr. K leads the campaign assessment process for the USPACOM and manages the Command’s $200 million annual budget. Prior to his current role, he served in the U.S. Air Force and as Chief Technology Officer and Technical Advisor for the Air Force Flight Test Center. |

Prior to becoming CEO in 2014, Mr. Oshima served in several other capacities for Hawaiian Electric and its parent company, Hawaiian Electric Industries. Mr. Oshima also previously served as a senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Hawaiian Telcom, and practiced law in Honolulu. Emily Reber Porter is currently the COO of the MacNaughton Group, a Hawaii-based real estate investment and development company. At the MacNaughton Group, Ms. Porter is involved in, among other things, real estate projects and the overall strategic direction of the company. Previously, she served as General Counsel, Chief Administrative Officer and Vice President of Customer and Professional Operations of JustAnswer, a high-growth Internet company in San Francisco. Ms. Porter was recently named by Hawaii Business Magazine's "20 for the Next 20" list. Gerald Oda is the Coach & Manager of the Honolulu Little League team that recently won the Little League World Series. Mr. Oda captured the world's attention with his inspirational words and approach to teamwork. Dennis Gibson is currently a Senior Vice President of Booz Allen Hamilton, an international IT services company. Mr. Gibson is responsible for his company’s business in the Pacific Rim, which includes Guam, Singapore, Korea, Japan, and Alaska. Prior to joining Booz Allen Hamilton, Mr. Gibson served in the U.S. military for 24 years. |
